"Replanning" is one of those wonderful quasi-words that NASA uses on a regular basis to describe the process of continuously revising a plan in the face of changing requirements and unalterable circumstances. (In the latter case, the appropriate NASA-speak is that something was "overcome by events," somewhat haphazardly abbreviated as OBE, but I digress...)

And so I sit, together with Galina, and we are planning - and replanning - what we must do, how we must do it, and in what order. I just finished that editing job, and now have only to complete a review of a lecture delivered at last September's conference of the ATA in Orlando. The prospect of doing so seemed quite innocuous, until (a) it became clear that I was going to miss the deadline of last Friday, and (b) I have really no idea how to "review" a lecture. No matter, I've made a bunch of notes, and I'll whittle on it in my "spare" time and have something out the modem line by noon tomorrow.

My work for STS-97 comes to an end on Friday morning, after which I've got to get cracking on triaging the stuff in this house into three categories...what we keep and take to Colorado, what we move to Pearland, and what we get rid of (either sell at a garage sale or donate to charity).

Then we have to take the stuff going to Colorado...to Colorado. And while there, get the paperwork started on either a corporation or one of those LLC vehicles. (I know about the former, having gone that route several years ago...I keep running into people who suggest the latter, though, which means I have a bunch of reading to do in my, um, copious spare time.)

I need to do this before the end of the year, which kinda kills the idea of working through the month and invoicing some impressive numbers, so I'll have to rethink this closely and decide how to play this. What seems immovable is the closing date for the business, which is just after the New Year. Perhaps the right time to go to Colorado would be the middle of the month, which would give me enough time after the end of the flight to put stuff together, but not so close to Christmas as to make life unbearable in that department.

Of course, we also need to move the Pearland stuff...to Pearland. This means having to accelerate the fixes to the house, particularly in the area of the kitchen (as yet no sink, no counters, no cabinets, and a big hole in the floor where the stove is supposed to stand...we won't talk about the bathroom or the floors in the bedroom, or...yikes...ye gods...hmmm).

It would appear the easiest task would be to stage all the stuff for sale and/or donation and then try to sell some of it (or maybe not...it may not be worth the time), but in any event have whomever stop by and pick it up.

Having put this much down on phosphor, it's clear to me I'm babbling, and I am no closer to a solution than when I started with a blank screen. However, this little exercise in stream-of-consciousness problem delineation is a start, and I've got to start somewhere. Since it's almost sleepy-time, I will assign this problem to my subconscious and see what develops "overnight."

Ciao.

Cheers...
