Going into overdrive...
Apr. 15th, 2001 08:05 amThe process started yesterday, as the only "free" time I have that occurs in any quantity over a few hours is between 3 pm on Saturday and 8 am on Monday.
Galina called Lee yesterday afternoon, echoing the tactic I'd used last week to confirm she'd left for Colorado. This time, however, Lee picked up the phone, which meant, obviously, that she hadn't left. Consequently, even if she was on her way out the door, a prudent itinerary would place her in Colorado sometime this afternoon.
I had planned to step through a bunch of stuff with her before going in to the store tomorrow morning, which is the only day we'll have to work together before I leave for Houston on Tuesday.
And it promises to be a heck of a day (Tax Day 2001), which means that the place will be jammed with people wanting to have their envelopes postmarked (easy) as well as those who feel it is necessary to certify and attach a return receipt to their returns (not hard, but time-consuming...I had one fellow come into the store the other day with seven envelopes he wanted processed in this manner...it took an inordinate amount of time...mostly to make sure all the sticky pieces of paper go where they are supposed to go...but I digress...).
The store had its first scanning customer yesterday. I just finished scanning and e-mailing a bunch of old family photos. The revenue thus generated is not enough to retire on, but every little bit helps at this moment in time.
I may be able to put my declawed :Cat optical reader to some use, in scanning UPS tracking labels. I spent a couple of hours yesterday putting together a Windows application using C++ Builder, and the whole shebang works. I spent just enough time on the project to scratch a nagging itch and prove the concept (I should have been doing other things, I guess), so I guess I'll take the code down with me to Houston and polish it a bit.
Time is running...and so must I.
Cheers...
