Just got a call from a new client who has a 25-page job due Sunday night. When it rains it pours, it seems, and all things considered, it's tough to say no, so I won't. The material should be streaming at me in the e-ether as I write.

Today, I decided to do a one-day fast. I am inspired by a number of people I've dealt with over the past couple of years, both clients and colleagues, and reassured by both common sense and reasonably thorough reading on the subject.

I'm limiting my intake to water and unsweetened tea, at least today. So far, I'm not encouraged by the number of times I've had thoughts of food pop into my head today (about every couple of minutes, it seems). I know I don't think of food as much normally, but I do know that I eat a lot more often than is good for me.

At any rate, it's time to turn to on my translation work.

...having Word crash on me.

I must be the world's biggest chump in this department, since I keep forgetting the prime rule of working with Microsoft applications: save early and often.

It turns out, however, that AutoRecover was in effect, so in the end, my outburst in response to an abiding belief that almost two hours of work had gone pffft was uncalled for.

Mostly.

BTW, I broke my fast while waiting for the machine to reboot. I know I'm giving in, but there is no honor in being pig-headed about things, either. We'll try again some other time, on a day where the stress level imposed by Windows is somewhat less, um, intense.

Cheers...

So there I am, quietly working away, when I get a third call asking if I can do a short Web-page translation. No rush, says my client, just get it done in the next couple of days or so. I say yes, of course.

But I'm rapidly reaching my limit. The good thing is that today's new assignments both come with electronic originals, which will give me an opportunity to use SDLX on them. In theory, the tool will make things go faster, and I really need things to "go faster" now that I have a full (overfull?) plate.

It's dinnertime. Galina's back from the store and I have 4 more pages to do to satisfy my self-imposed schedule to complete all this stuff on time. I've already spilled the beans about having thrown over the fast in the early afternoon, and Galina's asking "What are we going to eat?"

I think I will take a break from this drilling platform specification and go make something to eat.

Cheers...
