I got back from the store this morning around 10:30 or so. I expect today should be about the peak of the rush, as people start to relax, realizing that nothing they are reasonably going to do is going to get their packages to their destinations by The Big Day (2nd day and overnight shipments are expensive).

Reviewing the steel tank spec was hard enough without trying to actually verify it against the original. I did, anyway, in a spot-check kind of manner, but didn't catch any errors as a result of that approach.

The primary method of catching stuff was to simply read the stuff and keep an eye out for the misplaced question marks in the text (indicating an issue that occurred to me while I was working, e.g., "Does the text mean "special" organization, or "specialized" organization, and is there a difference?"). I caught a heck of a lot of small nits that way. And of course, a spell check both before and after is a sine qua non.

The local electric company hit us with some interesting voltage fluctuations about three-quarters of the way into the process. Fortunately, my desktop is powered through a UPS, and I am very heavy-handed anyway when it comes to typing Alt-F+S when using Word to edit a 28,000 word document.

Once I was finished with the document, I forced myself to do a pleasant duty, and that was to write and send invoices for all the work I've done since December 3.

It's a nice payday, even if I won't see any of it until next year.

In other news, I resigned all of my correspondence chess games because I couldn't keep up with both them and my translation work. I hated to do it, but I hate getting forfeited by the tournament director even more.

I penned a short item for the Slavic Division's newsletter, The SlavFile. I'm not sure, but they may also publish my Burimé in this next issue.

The next thing I am going to do is take the rest of the night off. You heard me.

I am going to have a couple of drinks, I am going to help cook dinner, I am going to have a good time. Then, first thing tomorrow - probably after I get back from the store :^) - I shall sit down and plan out how to convert 170 pages of Russian into some number of pages of English that say, basically the same thing.

Cheers...
