Though we're not finished with the back room quite yet, it's starting to take shape. The area of to the left side of the photo is still strewn with boxes full of stuff, which will be sorted out a little at a time.

The whole family here in Pagosa (Shannon, Huntur, Drew and I) spent the day at the store. Here's Drew with a very energetic Huntur:

I managed to get both postal reports done today, so that is off my conscience. Upon returning home, I commenced translating. The source document was transmitted to me in electronic form, so I decided to use SDLX to help me with it.

Installing a fresh version of SDLX on my desktop was not a problem. Not wishing to leave well enough alone (the version on the desktop would be good until 8 Feb without any registration info), I "deregistered" the version that was on my VAIO, and then attempted to "reregister" my license on my desktop.

That requires a password or a license number, neither of which I took the trouble to note down the first time I did this exercise.

Eventually, I managed to find the necessary information in some old mail files.

There are about 2300 "segments" of the document to translate, where a segment is - generally speaking - a sentence. Or a standalone number, as one would find in a table. Or a section heading.

Prior to dinner, I was able to process about 100 such segments. which cover the first 4 printed pages of the document. The next two and a quarter pages (my goal for the night) occupy another 22 segments. Simple division shows that there is no good correlation between "number of segments" and "number of pages." Looking at the printout, somewhere around page 46 (of 53), the text becomes rife with tables filled with numbers.

Indeed, I just took a look. Page 46 starts around segment 1106, so more than half of the segments occur in the last 8 pages of the document. This tells me that I should not feel bad about knocking off 150 segments or so per day.

I've got to go to Durango tomorrow with the kids. While they shop at Wal-Mart, I'm going to try to get myself a pair of glasses that won't come off every time I need to do something up close.

Time is a-wastin'! Once I get these 22 segments under my virtual belt, I'm going to go upstairs and go to sleep. On the whole, it's been a tiring day.

Cheers...
