I was awakened this morning at 7:30 am by my "inner" alarm clock (the one that gets set automatically after you get used to arising at a particular time every morning). I thought I had set the alarm by the bed, but nothing ever came of it this morning. (I wonder if I perhaps set it for 6:30 pm?) Anyway...

I left the house on the way in to work, planning to stop by our rental house in Heritage Colony and inspect the alleged "mold" on the wall facing the street that has been the subject of some letters to us from the homeowner's association. I saw no such mold.

Then I stopped by the CompUSA to check out a doodad I'd seen advertised in a couple of places: a USB device that's small enough to fit on a keychain, yet stores megabytes of information. The folks at CompUSA say they'd never heard of such a device. No biggie. I checked my wristwatch; time was running short.

I had been planning to stop by a Vietnamese place for some phơ, but decided not to push my schedule too hard on this first day in town and opted to go straight to JSC. It was a good thing I did.

First, I was asked to surrender my badge, apparently because it was old-looking. The procedure was quick and efficient, but required me to detour to another office to have the card recoded to give me access to the MCC and other restricted areas. The lady who recoded the card said it was a good thing I was going into the MCC, as I was approaching some kind of deadline for inactivity.

Finally, when I got to my work site, I had trouble logging in, with the system telling me my account had expired, and that took a little time to get straightened out. After wrestling a bit with a web page designed to let me renew my account, I had to give up, as the page uses JavaScript, while the browser on my assigned machine in the OpsPlan area has JavaScript turned off administratively (go figure). I finally got everything squared away after a couple more phone calls, but the whole process kinda put me through the wringer.

So now, although I feel I've gotten a lot done, I've really accomplished nothing.

It's off to work... I have a 7-page radiogram that's burning a hole in someone else's directory until they get the English from me.

Cheers...

Encountered in a conversation with a Russian:

недоперепить - (v.) to have drunk more than one should, but not as much as one wanted.

An interesting concept, to be sure.

But not after going out for a meal with Lee, who was home when I got back to Pearland.

Lev called me on my cell earlier in the day and sent me work to do in my "off" time. Normally this is not a problem, but the volume of work for Execute Package was significant today (Alex K. and I, in fact, left with one file pending for tomorrow), and I'm pretty beat.

The good news is that the document is not very big (12 pages, with lots of white space). I've sight-translated about a page and half during dead time with the Ops Planners, so it ought to go pretty fast. I figure I'll work until about 1 or 2 am and then hit the sack. I'll plan to get up around 8, so I can make a doctor's appointment at 10.

More later, maybe. Gotta go eat.

Cheers...
