And not really a break at that.

Got home last night to find Lee hard at it, engaged in one of her online games. She finally tore herself away and we went down to the corner for a mediocre Caesar salad and a bowl of B+ vegetable beef soup. On the way home, we stopped by the K-Mart (only to learn that it now closes at 10:30, as it is on the list of those that will close permanently soon), which brought us to the Wal-Mart, where we bought some necessities. (That's what happens when there are no clean towels in the house!)

Eventually, we returned home, where I sat down to translate and Lee went back to her game.

I went to bed around 2 am, headed for an 8 am wakeup. A beige cat named Spike was my companion for the night (we males are relegated to the bedroom, leaving the rest of the house to Lee and the other three cats that belong to her and Dwayne).

One of the pages I received to translate was barely readable, so I skipped it. I stopped by the client's office and picked up a legible copy of the document on the way to my doctor's appointment (BP is okay, weight is up). Wrote part of the translation in the waiting room, albeit by hand, on note paper.

It seems I am translating at odd moments and on odd subjects all of a sudden.

I managed to get to work on time, and have spent the last four hours reviewing Alex K's work and doing some of my own. It looks like I will be busy all the way to 8 pm, when my shift ends.

Cheers...

The radiograms for the day are done... time to take a short break and muse on something I began thinking about on the drive down.

Just about my entire life has been lived in an era of "do your own thing" dancing where couples (and singles, and more-than-couples, etc.) sort of go out on the dance floor and move to the beat of the music. While some people who do this can do so quite expressively, many times the result looks jerky, uncoordinated, and out-of-touch with the music.

I am aware of the philosophy of "You've got to dance like nobody's watching, and love like it's never going to hurt..." There is more than a grain of truth to that thought. There is, in fact, great value in having the freedom to jump around any which way you want without having to be (or feeling one has to be) accountable to anyone for it.

But it's not the only way to dance.

Sometimes, there is value to be found in following "the rules" (choirs come to mind here, and team sports).

In looking at the amateurs who danced for an audience on Saturday night, I was struck by just how "in tune" the couples seemed to be as they moved in a coordinated fashion around the floor. Moreover, I found my eye attracted to one particular couple, whose moves while doing the cha cha cha seemed to broadcast more "sex" than the thinly disguised bumps and grinds I often see among non-contact dancers.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I was pretty impressed with the energy and look of "ballroom" dancing.

Back to work...

... because now I know I have to have my butt planted on Loop 18 for a sim tomorrow starting at 7:30 am.

I can do that.

Lee bought a sub-$100 DVD player yesterday, and as she is not here to test it out (it was bought in anticipation of a 27-hour anime marathon here at the house over the weekend), I tried it out with Clint Eastwood in his 1968 film Hang 'Em High, which - viewed in the cold grey light of nearly 35 years after - is a timeless classic (at least after consuming a 6-pack of "33" Export beer from Vietnam).

G'night.

Cheers...
