Galina, Lee and I went over to Doug and Kat's to play CashFlow on the eve of Lee's departure for Houston. Prior to going over, we ordered about $50 of Chinese food and brought it by.

After chowing down on the cuisine chinoise, we began to play. The first step is to select a card that determines your job in life. Lee got stuck with being a doctor. Doug was a lawyer, Galina was a secretary, I was a truck driver, and I forget what card Kat drew.

I say "stuck," because while the game affords the doctor a healthy salary, the doctor also has significant expenses. Since the idea of the game is to develop passive income that exceeds one's expenses, it makes the doctor's task that much harder.

I managed to achieve the goal first, but we kept playing on to give Lee a better taste for the game. As time passed, she seemed to be getting the hang of it, but we finally had to call it a night around 11:30 pm. She had gotten just past the 50% mark toward the goal.

I got up at 5 am this morning to get the ladies up, and they actually started out at 6:15 am, only a few minutes behind my target time of 6 am sharp.

When I woke Galina at 5:15 am, she sleepily asked me to wake her at 6. I nixed the idea, since that'd mean a 7 am departure at the earliest. Combine that with a 5 hour trip to Albuquerque (assuming no delays) and the need to be at the airport 2 hours ahead of flight time (1 pm), and something has to give.

(Speeding is Not An Option, nor have I found speeding to really help all that much, but I digress...)

In any event, I just fielded a collect call from Galina. I told her that Lee had not called, so that means she must've made it to the plane in good order. In turn, Galina told me she could not find the Sam's Club in Albuquerque (surprise!) and was heading to Farmington to pick up drinks for the store.

This week's edition of the The Pagosa Springs Sun had an announcement to the effect that a bunch of excess county property would be auctioned off at a local storage place starting at 10 am today. I got there at 10:01 or so and everything had already pretty much been spoken for. I managed to get two chairs, a rolling file cabinet, and an HP LaserJet III printer for $20.

The LaserJet III shows a "50 SERVICE" error, which my Web research says indicates either a bad fuser assembly or a bad AC power module for that assembly. I even managed to find a site that will sell me a new power module (plus explanatory video) for $49 plus shipping, if I send them back the old module. So far, I've removed the fuser assembly in preparation for checking continuity across some contacts to make sure the quartz lamp is still good. (I suspect it is, since the unit heats up after you apply power.)

The owner of the storage facility took advantage of the county's sale to offer some abandoned/forfeited property for sale. I walked away with about 200 comics - most of them related to anime - for $7. Some of the non-anime items include the first five issues of the Marvel Star Wars comics from the late 70s, and the first half dozen issues or so of the Logan's Run comic from the same publisher. I figure I'll sell these items on eBay, chunked up appropriately.

Cheers...
