I could probably have spent my time more profitably, but I decided to put some stuff up on eBay, seeing as how I'd acquired a bunch of comics yesterday.

First, though, I put about a dozen used books up for sale on Amazon. I figure if they don't sell there, I can put them up for sale on eBay for whatever I can get.

It takes almost no time at all to list books on Amazon. I'd say I had all 12 books listed in about 10 minutes (once, of course, I'd decided which books to sell!). Not so with eBay.

It took me a while to get back into the swing of things. I had developed some home-written scripts about a year or two ago to help streamline the description-writing effort, and I had to go back and (a) get reacquainted with the code, and (b) figure out a way to insert links on thumbnails, so that if a potential bidder clicked on a small image of a comic, they'd be linked to a large image.

While on the subject of images and thumbnails, it occurred to me that Terracotta was ideally suited to manage eBay images, since it creates thumbnails of uploaded images (I had to tweak the default size in the configuration file) and stores the actual images, too. That way, it's easy to link to either type of image (I wish I'd had this capability before, but the important thing is that I have it now! :^)

Since I'd put things up for auction the last time, eBay has changed its listing procedure, and actually, it's not as bad as I had first suspected, especially if you're selling a number of similar items. Based on the approximate times between item posts, I estimate it took me about one-and-a-half hours to post 5 auctions. Yech.

Lee and I had rented two films on Thursday, and by the time they were due back, I'd seen neither of them. I remedied that yesterday.

The first film, which I saw after the store closed, was Iron Monkey a kung-fu potboiler that managed to combine modern special effects with "traditional" character caricatures. I liked it.

The second, which I saw with Galina once she returned from Farmington, was A Beautiful Mind. I have to tell you, I was impressed with this movie. With all due respect to Jennifer Connelly, who played John Nash's soulmate, helpmate, and wife Alicia with great passion, Russell Crowe did a painfully good job of depicting an awkward, socially remote geek/genius. Before seeing the film, I had difficulty imagining how anyone could create a bearable, non-sappy story about someone afflicted with schizophrenia.

Now, I know.

The good news for the day is that I walked to the store this morning, to get some exercise. Once there, I called Galina, who drove the van to the store, where I unloaded an unconscionable quantity of drinks and stocked them in the store's cooler.

The not-so-good news is that I've been at the computer for way too many hours today. Time to go out and breathe some air and focus on the horizon, before the sun goes down.

Cheers...
