Hell week, day 3...
Dec. 18th, 2002 08:12 pmThe days have a habit of sneaking up on you, as the sagas of our store's customers will testify. Several times today, I heard variations on the theme of "I didn't realize Christmas was so close!"
Today, we did a land-office business selling 3-day delivery services (UPS doesn't move on weekends, and will not deliver on December 24). I have no doubt there will be an appreciable bump in people sending boxes via 2nd day services tomorrow.
Last week, while in Houston, I think it was Sam M. who provided me with the quip I tried out today in response to the "delivery-costs-more-than-the-present" line that we hear often at this time of year. Sam suggested the following as an appropriate response:
"Next time, buy a more expensive present."
You have to use your judgment, of course, but every time I used this line today (about 4 times), I got a big smile in return.
* * * I showed up a bit late at the store, staying at home to compile and send invoices for work done last week and cutting checks for the store. There just doesn't seem to be any time left over to do anything else.
And there is so much to do... :^)
But I am well and truly going to push that off, if only for this week. Among the more important items to do is to review last year's list of resolutions and see how we did. I don't expect a glowing self-assessment, as I did little in the way of performing any intermediate checks. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how I did.
For now, though, I can think of no other activity more worth pursuing than relaxing... maybe, even, going to sleep.
Cheers...
