The dogs let me sleep in until nearly 7 am, and then I moseyed around until nearly 8:30 and went to the store.

Once I got home, I spent some time cleaning the garage, and Drew came by around 1 pm or so and we spent half and hour getting the door into order. (Having done that, I need to make sure the door never goes up above about halfway, so as to keep the cables from slipping off the tensioning pulleys.)

I planned to catch up on the store's receivables, but napped instead. I'll do it tomorrow.

Surfed a bit in the early evening, and joined Galina in a (for me) second viewing of The Bourne Identity. No surprises, of course, but I'm becoming sensitive to remarks directed at the French, it seems. In this movie, the French cops surroud a hotel in which our hero and his girlfriend are staying, which gives them plenty of warning of the danger. When it becomes clear that the pair have flown the coop, the CIA officer in charge of the project asks something along the lines of "What's the French word for 'stakeout'?" in a very sarcastic tone.

It turns out the actor who says this - Chris Cooper - also played a role in The Patriot, as the commanding officer of Mel Gibson's character. It was on the tube last night when I got home, and in the 20 or so minutes of it that I watched, there was a disparaging remark directed at the French (I seem to recall that, somewhere near the end, the character of the French liaison officer is caricatured for his vanity, too.)

(And lest it be thought I have something against the French, I don't. At least not in the unthinking way thatmost people espouse, say, anti-Americanism. I've met a lot of decent, nice people while traveling in France.)

I cried when Columbia died with her crew, and I cried again a few minutes ago reading Bill Whittle's excellent essay on Courage.

I've found all of Bill's essays to be well-written and well-reasoned. This one moved me. Go read it.

Cheers...
