Today was the last day of the snow season up at the Wolf Creek Ski Area. So, Drew and Shannon decided to go up for those last few runs down the mountain. That left Huntur in the care of her ever-lovin' grandparents.

Heh, heh.

Seeing as how it's patently unfair to lay the burden of baby-sitting completely on Galina, and also seeing as how we desperately needed to make a shopping run (and an Office Depot run, for printer toner), we decided to take the kid with us to Durango and do some shopping.

The trip there was pretty nominal. I tried to teach Huntur the "do-re-mi" song from The Sound of Music, as well as "Row, row, row your boat," with limited success.

It turns out, by the way, that the "Super K-Mart" that's been in Durango for over 20 years is closing its doors in a little over a week, and is selling just about eveything in store (all merchandise and most of the fixtures). After picking up a package of toner at the Office Depot, we stopped at the K-Mart and dropped $50, mostly for clothing (and for a new garbage pail for the store).

We then did some food shopping at the Wal-Mart, dropping nearly $200. The funny thing, though, is that after we got home and put away the newly bought groceries, it seemed there was still nothing to eat in the house!

I started translating somewhere between 3 and 4 in the afternoon, with no real expectation of hitting my scheduled milestone today (I really didn't look forward to working until nearly midnight). Howver, somehow I managed to get a fire lit and reached my goal a little while ago, pretty much at 9 pm straight up.

So, only three more such sessions, and I can breathe a little easier! :^)

Yesterday's get-together was a wedding reception for the lady (and her new husband) who own the ice cream shop in the same shopping center where we have our store. It was unlike any reception I had ever been to before (different, not bad).

Aside from the unusual location, the dress was pretty casual, and the refreshments were pretty good. The entertainment... well, there are people who like karaoke, and there's me. I personally think karaoke is Japan's revenge for our having won the war, as it tends to take more-or-less normal people and draw out that little incarnation of Elvis that dwells deep within all of us.

Except there was only one Elvis. The rest of us make do, which becomes painfully apparent when you shove a microphone into our sweaty little hands.

Among other people, we met an interesting couple from Dallas at the get-together. He's an architect, she's an appellate lawyer, and they're the parents of an adopted Russian baby. Maybe we'll see them again before they leave for home.

As the evening wound down, it started to snow, for what may be the last time this season. Apparently, it continued to snow, on and off, during the night, as there was a slight accumulation visible upon arising.

Apparently, it's the kids' day out. Galina is at the kids' place right now, baby-sitting a sleeping Huntur while Drew and Shannon are out. Me, I'm going to surf for a bit and then go to sleep.

Cheers...
