I don't know what happened today, but I feel like I've been hitting the heavy bag for the past six hours or so. Thank goodness I have but one more day left of this job... it's driving me batty.

(Though by now, that drive is probably more of a 9-iron shot.)

I got my quarterly column off to the editor last night, along with a response to an e-mail sent by someone who had some things to say about my translation of the lyrics to Ваше благородие (discussed here, here, and probably elsewhere).

With regard to the criticism, I am happy to note that I managed to come up with a fairly neutral response, which is a football field away from my initial reaction to the note. Time heals all wounds, they say, and they're right!

It's nothing worth arguing much about, anyway.

My column was a departure, even for me. The theme stressed the importance of absorbing humor in one's "foreign" language. I think it worked, and even managed to sneak in some jokes for good measure.

I went for a walk after 6 pm yesterday for what I call the "petit tour" (as in the opposite of "grand tour"). Specifically, I go down the driveway, turn left on Carino, left again at Meadows and Rifle, and then sneak back to the house through the undeveloped lot at the end of Rifle.

I took Sasha with me, and I think we both started thinking about going back home about halfway down the driveway. It was cold!

By the time we were making our way back through the lot, my throat was a little raw from breathing all that cold air, and Sasha made no moves to investigate the side of the road, as dogs are wont to do when you take them for walks.

I'm going to go rest... maybe catch up on current events.

Cheers...
