Weird day, although it started ordinarily enough with a visit to the ham breakfast. Afterward, I stopped by the store and helped out until about 11 am, by which time Drew had returned from picking up the mail with Shannon, Hunter, and cousin Mikayla in tow. After greeting the birthday girl, I went home, with Shannon close behind in Drew's car, as they wanted to go visit Galina.

We spent some more time together at our house until about 10 to 12, at which point I took off to go visit what was described as a huge sale of various stuff from its location at a storage place. It turns out that one of the stores downtown went out of business, and the owners were selling off everything, pretty much.

I ended up buying four cases of packing tape for a pretty good price ($5 a case), as well as two POS receipt printers, bar code scanners, and display poles, as well as a credit card machine, a UPS, and some miscellaneous stuff for $200. (Now we need to incorporate the whole macgillicuddy into the store's routine!)

After dropping the goods off at the store and grabbing some lunch, I went home and lay down for a few minutes to take my BP, but ended up sleeping until 5 pm. Upon arising, I uninstalled the useless upgrade of FineReader 6.0 from my desktop and installed the copy that arrived with today's FedEx. This installation clearly shows a whole bunch of recognition languages, including Russian.

Shortly after 6, Natalie called and we chatted, but I had to get going to meet Galina at the store so we could proceed to Huntur's birthday party (today's celebration was relatively small; the kids promise a barbeque, etc. tomorrow). Drew assembled the bicycle that Huntur received (from us) in lickety split time, and she had a ball rolling around on it, in her little safety helmet. With any luck, she'll learn to use the pedals soon and then the kids will have all sorts of fun keeping track of her (I'll not bet on how quickly riding up and down a 30-foot driveway will become).

I've been cleaning up around the office since coming home, and doing some backups. I've only just copied all the photos from the Baikonur trip onto an archival CD. Here, by the way, is a photo of a bird that perched on the windowsill of my room at the Fili, and who seemed perfectly content to watch me through the glass as I peered back out at it.

And one other, which summarizes for me the interpretation life:

The pretty lady standing between the conversing parties is Galina V., who is an elegant, consummate professional whom I was fortunate to be teamed with, along with Olga F. (who is also a top-notch pro), for this gig. I hope to work with them again.

Cheers...
