A mad dash...
Aug. 29th, 2003 01:26 amThe rest of yesterday was spent madly dashing to and from work and a bed, with only middling results in the sleep department. When I got home in the morning, after last night's shift, I tried to get some sleep before returning for the second half of Cyril's shift (he's the fella that's sick), but I didn't get any rest before the alarm went off.
What can I say? Back to JSC from noon to 4:30 pm (I had incorrectly thought it was merely 4 pm), and then back home.
As I turned left at the last light before home, I impulsively turned into the parking lot of the applicance place on the corner (the folks who had supplied the washer repair guy from... yesterday?). Did they have a gas range? Yes, they did. I took a look. The price was reasonable (less than $200, before installation and miscellaneous parts). When could they deliver? How about... now? But I need to go to bed within, like, an hour. No problem!
And they were as good as their word.
Yes, friends, for the past... what? couple of years?... all the cooking that went on in the Pearland house was done on a propane camp stove. Myself, I could make do (and actually cook) with it, but Natalie seemed to hardly use it at all (which meant either poor home-cooked nutrition or poor - and expensive - eat-out nutrition). But now, with a range, the house is "complete" (according to Natalie). Me, I just like the idea of being able to boil water for tea without having to worry about the camping-sized propane bottle running empty.
The speedy installation allowed me to get to bed by 6:15, but sleep was elusive. I'm sure I slept, but not sure how long. I woke up at 10 pm, and by 10:05 understood the uselessness of trying to eke one more hour of shuteye out of the session. As it turned out, the time passed quickly as I caught up with Natalie, and I barely got out of the house on time, at 11:20.
* * * I've been having trouble with Wordfast in Microsoft Word, lately, which I've documented on SpringsboardWiki::WordHangTrialAndError. The bottom line is that I've been deleting the Normal.dot template in order to allow Word to use the Wordfast template. I just started Word like that a few minutes ago on my personal machine, and now Word throws a message, informative as only a Microsoft message can be, to the effect that "Winword has caused an error in WINWORD.EXE. Winword will now close."
Oh, puh-leeze!
Deleting the Wordfast template allows the program to load, so something is definitely squirrely somewhere. The WF Yahoo!Group is not being terribly helpful, which makes me think it's a problem with my particular setup. Farblegarg.
Cheers...
