Variation on a theme...
Oct. 29th, 2003 09:15 amThere are nights, particularly when I am on a long-term deadline, when I have a dream in which I am translating this endless table of completely unfamiliar material, which slows me down terribly, though I never actually dream that I am researching. As you might expect, the quality of sleep I get on such nights tends to be of suboptimum quality.
Last night, I dreamed pretty much the same dream, but this time, the material wasn't unfamiliar (though I remember nothing of what it was), and I was ripping through it like a red-hot knife through soft butter. I even dreamt I finished the job.
In short, it resembled my effort in translating the Excel file earlier in the evening.
I checked the files upon arising, sent them off, and sat down to invoice the job. In the end, I was pleased to see that my payday for yesterday evening's work was quite satisfactory.
* * * I got a good close look at one of the new $20 bills yesterday, as they are starting to filter through the shop. I am not impressed.
In fact, I think the new design is horrid. It makes me not want to touch the thing, frankly.
The bill looks like it got wet and then dried with a stain permanently set in the paper. The coloration of the stain makes me wonder where the bill has been, with visions of the floors of outhouses, beer halls, and back alleys predominating.
The back of the bill is horrendous. My first impression upon seeing all the little yellow "20"s printed on the reverse side of the bill was that somehow, it had become diseased, and the little yellow marks were pustules of some kind.
On the practical side, whereas I used to be able to see the watermark on the new bills simply by holding them out in front of me, I can only see the watermark on the new bill if I hold the bill up to a strong light.
I'm not being very charitable, am I? Too bad.
Cheers...
