I got a call around 1 pm to go down to the local clinic and do some Russian-English interpretation for an emergency case, and ended up accompanying the patient to Durango in the ambulance. It was my second trip to Durango today, since Galina was fast asleep at 7 am, which is when one must depart Pagosa -- as I did -- if one is to be on time to meet the truck carrying our box order from Albuquerque.

There's not much I am free to say about the interpretation, except that the situation is very complicated once you get away from the medical realities. I found this out once I got home, when I found out that Galina had been involved, indirectly, in the aftermath of what had happened while I was on my way to and from "the big city."

Hopefully, everything will work out for the best.

I finally got around to modifying the Perl script for my lone, local IT client. I think.

How I did it, I have no idea, given the fact that a number of interruptions kept manifesting themselves throughout the day, including the long interruption in the afternoon alluded to in a previous post. The major task was having to come back up to speed regarding what the code was originally trying to accomplish, and then understanding the effect of the modifications I introduced just about a year ago.

The changes have to do with a shopping cart script, and more specifically, to enabling the use of codes associated with various discounts, with the following constraints:
(a) more than one code may be entered, to combine discounts, although only one of any given discount can be used at a time;
(b) the discount may be for an arbitrary amount, and may represent an absolute dollar amount or a percentage;
(c) the discount may require that a certain product is in the order (i.e., a discount on that product), or that the order be more than a certain amount (i.e., a discount for larger orders).

This may sound easy, but it's hard. Tomorrow, I will test the changes.

Cheers...
