Perling around... finally!
Jul. 12th, 2004 10:13 pmI finally got around to modifying the Perl script for my lone, local IT client. I think.
How I did it, I have no idea, given the fact that a number of interruptions kept manifesting themselves throughout the day, including the long interruption in the afternoon alluded to in a previous post. The major task was having to come back up to speed regarding what the code was originally trying to accomplish, and then understanding the effect of the modifications I introduced just about a year ago.
The changes have to do with a shopping cart script, and more specifically, to enabling the use of codes associated with various discounts, with the following constraints:
(a) more than one code may be entered, to combine discounts, although only one of any given discount can be used at a time;
(b) the discount may be for an arbitrary amount, and may represent an absolute dollar amount or a percentage;
(c) the discount may require that a certain product is in the order (i.e., a discount on that product), or that the order be more than a certain amount (i.e., a discount for larger orders).
This may sound easy, but it's hard. Tomorrow, I will test the changes.
Cheers...
