We ate out at the Hog's Breath Saloon, and I could not get enough of Huntür. (They do grow when you don't see them every day!) Drew and I discussed business over steaks, and Huntür had a corn dog.
I fielded two translation requests on Friday. The first was for 3000 source words to be done within 6 hours. I had to decline the job, as accepting would've meant stopping and registering at a motel -- what I think of as "going to the mattresses" -- almost immediately, not to mention finding some place with wireless connectivity. (Translating 1500 words is about the most I'd want to do while sitting in a bookshop cafe; any more and I'm afraid I'll need more substantial facilities.) In the end, translating 3000 source words in 6 hours doesn't leave a lot of spare time, all other things being equal, and the problem of getting the source files and finding a place to work made the circumstances quite unequal.
The second request was for about 750 words to be done by tomorrow morning. The major issue with this request was making sure I received the source file (if I find no source file in my inbox at 9 pm when I finally decide to settle in for the night, that's a problem). So, I got off of I-80 and went into a truck stop, into the area marked "Professional drivers only," and slipped a buck into a by-the-minute Internet terminal. This enabled me to make sure I had received the file -- which I had -- and to send an e-mail to confirm the fact. I was able to translate the document today, with plenty of time to spare, and to send it off today as well (deadline is tomorrow morning).
It's still early, but I am feeling a little run down. I think I will go upstairs and read.
Cheers...
