Another day of doing what I do best, which is perhaps not the best use of my time, but then again... :^)

Some folks are predictable. If I find a useful document on the Internet with a name along the lines of YAYABLABLA00E.pdf, which is the English version of some interesting file whose original version is in French, might one inquire as to the existence of a file named YAYABLABLA00F.pdf at the same site, which one might just suppose is in French?

Bingo!

In other news, I have resurrected my Zaurus (which is to say, I've recharged the battery), mostly to take advantage of the simple wiki I've put there. I'm starting to wonder just what it will take for me to set up a wireless network in whatever foreign country I may find myself in later this month. (Perhaps I should also consider whether it'd be legal?)

Anyway, I notice a lot of the stuff I've accumulated has a tendency to eat battery power while "off," the Zaurus being the poster child for the phenomenon. If I leave it alone for a week or so, its power source dwindles to zip-ola and I am faced with the Big Reboot the next time the unit has enough juice to power up.

Talking about power sources, I am very happy to have recently acquired a silver-writing Sharpie, whose inscribed line is visible on black plastic. I went wild with the poor thing today and inscribed the names of the associated hardware on the power supplies that come with said hardware, because, it is not always simple to figure out -- after the fact -- just which power supply goes with what toy essential piece of hardware.

I have a little more than 1,000 source words left in the item due Friday. I also have to figure out how to deal with the fact that virtually all of the figures in the document (a software manual) present screen shots that simply leak Cyrillic all over the floor. My proposed solution is to embed the Cyrillic labels (with translations) into the final document, rather than attempt the rather dubious path of editing the bitmaps, although I may come up with a better plan after I sleep on it.

Drew is coming over soon and we plan to brainstorm his idea for selling paintball supplies over the Internet. Apparently, paintball is the "in" thing, nowadays, and wouldn't it be a blast to actually take advantage of such a phenomenon? (Heck, at least pay for his habit? :^)

Cheers...
