Invoices!

The invoices are done, despite having overwritten an invoice whose content I could not recall. OTOH, at least I'm up to date.

Deliveries!

I had a delivery due at 5 pm. The delivery is done... as of about an hour ago... my first late delivery in... a long time. (I put together an email, but forgot to hit 'Send.') I assume no harm is done (had they called, about 30 seconds of, um, thinking would have led me to click the mouse in the right place and send the files for immediate delivery). On the one hand, this is not a chronic problem for me; on the other, even as a non-chronic problem, it's annoying.

Head start!

I only became aware of the previous problem because I started on the item due Friday. The TM file contained a spelling mistake, which is pretty rare. It was a mistake in a sentence that was supposed to have been sent to the client (so in a way, it was good I hadn't sent it off, as I did correct the problem it before actually sending the file, which involves its own set of self-doubt and insecurity, but it was the only problem the spell checker could find, so I'll postpone the self-flagellation for some later time). In the end, I've a 400-word start on the document, and feel pretty good about my ability to do do 3000-3500 words tomorrow.

Of course, Tomorrow may have other plans. He may be pitching.

Printouts!

I've printed out the sheets for proofreading. Now I need to actually do the proofreading... and buy another ream of paper. Both items will be done later... today. (Heh.)

Must sleep.

Cheers...

I got an email this morning thanking me for my early delivery and amicably informing me that I'd apparently forgotten I had extended yesterday's 5 pm deadline to 2 pm today. So... technically... yesterday's submittal was not late. In fact, it was - as I like it - a little on the early side.

How good of me not to beat myself up too much over it. (And a good time to put away the soapbox, too.)

I have just finished my pass through the proofreading job. Aside from some formatting changes there is one additional change that has been introduced that I remember asking Feht about back when we were submitting the job - which I will bug him about one more time just to make sure - as well as one minor omission on our part (translating the unit "ft" in one of the diagrams).

I've promised a final report by early this afternoon, which gives me a couple of hours yet.

Despite having gone to sleep eary this morning, I woke up, alert and refreshed at 6:30 am (urk!) with a BP any 20-year-old could be proud of. I've since had two cups of coffee and now feel like going back to sleep. Life is complex like that.

Честно говоря, самочувствие хорошое. На самом деле, все как-то кажется легче. Не знаю почему.

Cheers...

It's been that kind of day.

The proofreading job is gone and invoiced. A short, over-the-transom item has been received, translated, and sent, and will be invoiced later.

I managed to knock off just over 4000 words today from the geology assignment. When added to the 400 or so from late last night, today's bag puts me within 1500 words of finishing the job.

This, even with a two-hour nap-that-definitely-felt-like-sleep that ended at 3 pm, as I really didn't get enough rest during last night's somnolescence session. (There seems to be a recurring theme in this journal - an echo, almost - about sleep, methinks, have you noticed?)

In a variation on a theme, I caught myself typ[o]ing "Power Permian" instead of "Lower Permian" in the middle of a convoluted sentence about the makeup of some stratum a couple of kilometers under the middle of nowhere, somewhere in the vicinity of something called the "Sorokin swell." The spell check would never have found that one, I'm sure.

I found out today that an appraiser will be by tomorrow to look at the house. This made getting far enough along in the item due tomorrow that much more important, as the visit means I really should devote some time to making the place look less like a dump. (I'll merely write three words, so that you get the idea: dishes, garbage, laundry.)

I got around to checking out the ol' cash flow a couple of days ago and noticed I was missing two checks from a client whose payment pattern ordinarily is only slightly less regular than the NIST atomic clock in Boulder. Naturally, I started with the assumption - that word, again - that the checks were here somewhere,... which is a pretty frightening assumption to make, actually.

I ransacked the joint, as best I could. I even turned the store upside down, after a fashion. After finding no joy on all available fronts I decided to call the client today and find out at least what days the checks were sent, secretly hoping that, maybe, they hadn't. As it turns out, neither invoice had made it to accounting. An email with the missing invoices attached was dispatched with... well, um... dispatch.

I've been told a check has been cut for the amount owed and sent today.

PSA: If you like spring colors, check out the photos posted by LJ friend [livejournal.com profile] bekar. I may be unduly affected by the near-total lack of color around this neck of the woods (heck, without the dull grays and browns, we'd really be in a bad bind, color-wise), but I find his photographs to be a refreshing breath of the World Out There™, beyond the high desert, where the blossoms bloom and grow.

Cheers...
