Rebirth...
Jun. 7th, 2005 01:04 pmI find myself in a surprisingly good mood, though it's a shame I feel it necessary to use the qualifier "surprisingly" in this way. It may be an illusion, but between having sent off the first half of the paper chase to the accountant, having had the Backpack "reminder" feature kick in with success (meaning that I acted on the reminder), and having taken care of a couple of important-but-not-urgent tasks, I feel pretty skippy.
I finally got around to counting the source words in the assignment received yesterday, and my eyes nearly popped out onto my forehead and danced the fandango! (Nearly 30,000 source words!) I need a Plan.
I've got nearly 1000 French vocabulary items floating around in the SuperMemory application on my Palm, and I'm beginning to notice that I'm making corrections to several entries (e.g., "laver" != "to clean" - I had thought "nettoyer" was a more appropriate equivalent for the English). On the other hand, I'm having particular difficulty with adverbs, mostly because they sit there on the Palm's screen with no context. Learning vocabulary is one of the two prongs of my French-improvement attack; the other is to listen to French as it is spoken, which I have been doing on a daily basis, either in the form of a Podcast or a dialog from the SmartFrench CD.
In other news, Galina convinced me to walk to the store to open it this morning; the task consumed 45 minutes. This makes the third day in a row that I've gone for a walk. (Today is also Tuesday, which is my self-appointed "light-to-no-food" day, and I'm still going strong after one slice of turkey bologna this morning to remind my system of what it feels like to burn calories.)
In all, I feel a lot more in control of my life and am taking steps to achieve desired ends. Now, I just need to concentrate on multitasking my way until Friday.
