A marvelous, lousy day...
Sep. 27th, 2005 12:30 pmI guess the last gasp of the storm known as Rita passed over the area yesterday, dumped some rain, and then passed out to sea. Today, the sky is blue, with fluffy white clouds doing their thing, and at the beach, a too-brisk breeze is blowing from the northeast.
The hospital called to say my mother underwent the "peg" installation with no apparent problems, which is good, but our conversations today and yesterday have left much to be desired (yesterday, the subject was shoes, and the lack thereof on my mother's feet; today, it was a strange fascination with the fact that both my dad and I were wearing sticky id labels with my mother's room number on them). Moments of lucidity are fleeting and often lost in an inability to enunciate on my mother's part and an inability to comprehend on mine (my dad is half deaf, which is like my problem, but squared).
Dad asked if I could stay another week, and as much as I'd like to accommodate him, Galina needs to get down to Houston soonest to assess whatever damage may have been inflicted by Rita and to deal with a deadbeat renter, while I take her place at the store and give Drew a hand with daily chores. If translation matters don't pick up, I'll devote some serious time to figuring out ways to improve the business while Galina is in Houston. Furthermore, I don't really see how my staying an extra week will help matters, at least not at this point.
Cheers...
