Survivor!

It struck me, as I wrote the Subject line, that if people were interested in a real reality show, they'd have teams work a packaging and mailing store, with the idea of gaining points for successfully dealing with the various bumps and potholes that go with the business.

Like the fellow today who all but made a scene trying to send a couple of boxes COD and insisting that, when he'd done this with us before, we hadn't required him to pay for the shipment and COD fee up front, he just left the packages.

Horse puckey.

No carrier is going to transport a COD package unless someone pays to ship it, and there's no percentage in relying on the recipient to pick up COD shipping costs, because the recipient is completely at liberty to refuse the package, with no costs incurred. Of course, under this logic, if neither the sender nor recipient have to pay for shipping, that would leave your humble packaging and mailing store to pick up the tab, and I can tell you right now, bubbalah, it ain't gonna happen

(See, the way COD shipping actually works is that the sender pays for the shipment, along with a fee to have whomever (UPS, FedEx) collect money upon delivery. If a sender wants to send something COD that, when all is said and done, costs the sender zip, the amount of money to be collected upon delivery should include (a) the amount originally intended to be collected, (b) the shipping charges, and (c) the COD fee.)

The only problem with the reality show idea is that, after a few days, the smart players will be trying to get themselves thrown off their teams, but what do I know.

NaNoWriMo proceeds apace, more or less. I skipped my quota on Thursday, as I was depressed over Galina's departure, but I've made up about 1/3 of the missing words since then (I'm at 7200+). I'm going to have to get a somewhat thicker skin here soon, as next week, I'll be back in New Mexico on an interpretation assignment, and it'll be really hard to catch up if I miss any number of days then. Film at 11.

Cheers...
