Galina took off for Albuquerque around noon, with the intent of returning the car and hitting the mattress at a Motel 6 until tomorrow, when our Windstar will (theoretically) be fixed. As for myself, I undertook a medium-pressure translation this morning, which I was able to pretty much complete at home (though I had to finish checking the text at the coffee shop a few doors down from the store), followed by translating nearly 3K source words of the job due Thursday, again at the coffee shop (I have no wheels).

So, it's been a fairly straightforward day, with few surprises.

No news from my Baikonur client's direction. For the moment, I'll assume that the issue has to do with an extended Thanksgiving holiday. My mind has been playing all sorts of paranoid tricks on me since learning that I have somehow "missed my turn" (a tenuous idea at best) for such jobs.

I've taken a whole new tack with regard to those Russian/French flash cards I picked up during my last visit to Moscow. I've begun to hunker down and deal seriously with the words I don't know cold, looking for sample sentences on the Internet and such, instead of just trying to hammer the words into my brain. Interestingly enough, one of those words - in Russian - raised its ugly little head during my translation session this afternoon (бледность = la pâleur = pallor), which gave me a little boost, morale-wise, this afternoon.

I have to stop bringing stuff upstairs from my old office, since my new bookshelf space is fully occupied and there's not much room left in the drawers. Galina's already making noises about how I shouldn't invest too much of myself in this office, as she plans to start major renovations of the house next year. Who knows, perhaps we'll summer in a tent?

Cheers...
