First pass, complete!
Mar. 9th, 2006 07:39 pmThe first part of the contract was relatively interesting and went by quickly (judging subjectively). The second half was mostly boilerplate - alas, boilerplate I am not familiar with - and although it went by about as quickly in "real" time, the subjective time felt a lot longer.
I also managed to do one of the short items (and send it off), leaving just two short pieces to go (and, of course, a review tomorrow morning). That will doubtless make room for a fairly sizeable job due tomorrow by COB, though the subject of that translation isn't anything I haven't done before.
(Actually, the first time I encountered the subject of the translation, I had trouble believing it was genuine!)
* * * In other news, today was another windy day, with flakes of snow flying horizontally all over the place, as if trying to reach New Mexico before hitting the ground. Visibility approached a mile for most of the day.
Feht called to tell me a project we're working on for an East Coast client is done, and to give me yet another earful on translation memory programs (a followup to last night's tirade). I'll probably look at his work this weekend.
Outland, the tale of an idealistic marshall pursuing corruption at an uber-corporate installation on a Jovian moon, is perhaps not one of Sean Connery's best films, but I find I can watch it every couple of years with enjoyment, unlike some films that seem promising when I buy the DVD, but never lived up to the promise.
* * * I've been getting the BSOD every once in a while over the past month, increasing recently to two or more instances a day, often while there's hardly any load on the desktop. The error revolves around the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL condition, which a little digging around the Internet hinted at a possible driver incompatibility or, more likely, a memory problem. Several suggestions included reseating the memory card, moving the memory card from one slot to another, and removing dust from the memory card.
Gee.
When I sprayed canned air into my desktop's case, the room momentarily resembled the weather outside, except that the dust in the room settled after a few minutes. So far, no recurrence of the BSOD, but I haven't run the machine long enough to feel confident the problem's been solved.
* * * Ham breakfast tomorrow. There's a part of me that would like to go; and another - that dirty rat workaholic - that would really like to send the contract back East early and get started on the COB item. I will sleep on it, though I am inclined to not go, mostly because driving the Honda farther afield than between the store and the house is embarrassing.
Cheers...
