Experience has shown that the first evening of an interpreting assignment often doesn't end when it should. Yesterday was a supporting data point.

As far as the rest of yesterday went, my better judgment was vindicated when it turned out that I did, too, need to wear a hat while in El Paso, because I spent significant time outside in the bright, hot sun, and my face and neck got "red as a tomato," according to the leader of our team. I recall holding my hat in my hand as I prepared to go out the door, and allowing that little voice to talk me out of taking it. At any rate, my face doesn't bother me very much right now, except when I look in the mirror. At least there are no blisters.

For the second night in a row, I was awakened by the farblegargling alarm clock in the room, which some earnest erstwhile occupant had set to 4 am, and which I, apparently, don't know how to "unset." So after a few minutes, I got up, and am now in the hotel lobby with my VAIO, where the wireless connection is free.

Actually, I think I will go back to the room and try for a couple more winks. My alarm is set for 6 am, and I've got a hotel wakeup wired for that time, too.

Cheers...
