Still kicking in El Paso...

Over the previous days, I had been getting the feeling that I was being given the "new guy" treatment, where all upcoming assignments were distributed to other team members, leaving me to do things like edit translations and engage in one-line exchanges. That changed today, and I was "pleasantly" tired upon returning to the hotel.
A disquieting message from the client me and Feht did work for arrived yesterday. It seems the end client hired someone to review our work, with the end result being a detailed list of changes that, frankly, do not improve the product, but do reflect the preferences of the reviewer. The main list contains about 100 changes, and then additional lists reference both the first list and additional edits. Feht took a look at the review and indicated there was nothing of value there (indeed, if there is, it is well-hidden among instructions to change, for example, references to "учебное заведение" to "школа." Both terms mean "school," although the former is of a somewhat higher "register" (sort of the difference between calling something an "examination" and a "test") and the kind of word that you'd expect to see at the top of a final exam).
What was particularly galling was the requirement to provide an item-by-item response, either agreeing to the change or explaining why we disagreed. This, for something on the order of 200-300 proposed changes.
I wrote a note to our client's president, outlining our position. Even if we were willing to incorporate the changes, we really can't, as I'm down here and Feht is up to his ears in work as well. The response so far is promising, so I'll let it go at that.
The Colorado sales tax return is due tomorrow, and I'm apparently going to have to consign it to the ordinary mail without benefit of visiting a post office. I ought to be able to do that without too much sweat (and I even brought along some store checks!). In any event, doing the return tonight will make it the least stressful night since getting here (there was a translation Monday night and a reception last night).
