Chasing paper...
Sep. 3rd, 2006 09:56 pmI "slept in" until about 7 am today, and started in with the post-closure paper chase. It was difficult for me to concentrate on the items Galina is particularly interested in, just as it was difficult to concentrate on organizing a mass of documents that has never been well organized.
A bright spot in the day was finding a piece of paper that might save me a considerable amount of money. You see, one of the discrepancies that was uncovered in the pre-closure audit was a deposit that went missing back in December of 2004 (yes, that's right, 2004!). Today, I found the document that identified the number of the registered mail item the store sent out that day, as well as confirmation of its delivery to the main post office downtown. It should go a long way toward clearing up the issue, but I may again be surprised, so I won't hold my breath.
I did manage to file a bunch of paper today, though near the end, I started to merely shift it from place to place. Tomorrow, I expect to reconnect the store's computers into a network and make archival backups of the data on their disk drives, which ought to take some time.
I need to focus on getting organized as rapidly as possible. There's a possible job coming up near Los Angeles in about 10 days, and it'll be nice to be already based in Houston when that happens.
Cheers...
