As a lark, seeing that my neighbor was out walking along the street with his family at close to sunset (and seeing as how nobody had come by to turn on our electricity), I decided to ask if he'd mind if we ran an extension cord from the back of his house to ours. He graciously agreed.

I boiled some water, which Galina used to wash the accumulated dirty dishes, and just as I was about to use some of the third pot of water to make myself some tea after hooking up a table lamp to the business end of the extension cord, a knock came at the door. It was the technician, arrived to turn on the juice and knocking on the door first before venturing into the back yard.

At first, he was a bit stumped, seeing an electric light on at the house, but after I explained that trick, he set about getting us self-sufficient in the energy department.

I went for another long bike ride this morning. When I got back, I was almost too weak to walk around the house, but after a shower and a few minutes rest, I was ready to go grocery shopping with Galina.

I also burned the two recovery DVDs for my VAIO, in preparation for installing Ubuntu 6.10 on the hidden partition where the recovery data has been hidden. On my previous machine, I waited for almost two years before risking the ability to recover my machine, i.e., before installing Linux on that hidden partition.

There's a pile of things I have yet to do, but worrying about Galina's passport isn't one of them. This morning, Galina got together with Drew over the phone and walked him through the house in Colorado, where he readily found what we needed, lying on top of a night table. (Go figure.)

Cheers...
