What a day!
Sep. 26th, 2007 10:26 pmIt's been a long one.
As usual, I left the house a few minutes after 6 am to make it to a downtown appointment at 7:45 am. I was a half hour early in arriving; the other interpreter got stuck in traffic on I-10 and was about 20 minutes late.
From the start, it was a whirlwind of a day, with the delegation visiting two sites for an extended set of presentations, Q&A sessions, and technology demonstrations.
I found it curious to note that much of what was said and shown at both sites was very... similar. I've made other notes as well, several pages worth, of things I need to keep track of if these kinds of interpretation assignments are to flourish in my future. I was able to make such notes thanks to the curious fact that, at both locations, the potential contacts supplied their own interpreters, so I had little to do but listen and observe.
My turn up at bat came during the dinner, organized by a third company, and that went very well (even if the food - which was impressively priced - was quite ordinary, bordering perhaps on the mediocre). I was released at 9:30 pm.
That'll make for a nice payday, but I'm utterly exhausted.
I am also thankful to Natalie, who planned on staying in town overnight after work, but who came back to the house to feed and walk Shiloh before taking back off. Without that, the poor animal would've been left alone in the house for pretty much the time I had been at work (if we consider that Natalie was here in the morning until she had to leave for work). I shall have to keep this factor in mind before accepting similar long-duration assignments in the future.
I am a little behind in my invoicing, but not much. I plan to take it easy tomorrow morning, to recuperate from today.
Sleep beckons.
Cheers...
