Wordless Friday...
Sep. 28th, 2007 09:02 pmThe trend continued today, and during neither the morning session nor the afternoon session were my services required, owing to the presence of other interpreters or time constraints. I did most of my speaking during the late afternoon, 2-hour shopping session organized for the group at The Galleria, and virtually all of that speaking was with only one member of the delegation, who was just walking around, killing time.
The morning session did have its, um, high point, when (following yet another two-screen PowerPoint presentation) we found ourselves at the top of one of the buildings downtown, whereupon just about everyone, including this humble scribe, rushed outside to take pictures. To wit:

At the last minute, one of the interpreters scheduled to cover tonight's dinner bowed out and the job was offered to one of us on the bus, but I decided that leaving Shiloh alone for 12 hours was probably pushing it (not to mention I was feeling a bit tuckered out), so I let Alex K. run with the ball tonight.
The closing that we've been trying to achieve since April, if memory serves, was apparently dealt another setback as the buyer attempts to prove that the money he's bringing to the table isn't somehow "tainted" from the lender's point of view. The lender seems to be requiring conformity to all sorts of petty rules, and not tremendously interested in actually concluding the loan, which leads me to wonder if they earn additional simoleans if they stretch this thing out until the 22nd century. All I know is that if we don't close on Monday, Galina and I are going to be in a crack a few days later. But I can't worry about that until I get confirmation that we are, indeed, between a rock and a hard place.
Tomorrow marks the end of the job with this delegation. I have a notebook filled with terminology and raving opinions, which I shall have to review soon after the completion of the job. But now, I think I will try to catch up on sleep that I failed to get last night.
Cheers...
