When I got home last night, I found four files for translation from a client who wants them back on Monday. I felt a bit put out until I realized that the files were pretty short and wouldn't tie me to a keyboard for most of the day, so I went to sleep with a calm mind. I slept well, too. My good mood continued this morning, as I sort of deliberately vegetated, took the dog for two walks (it was that nice out), and even went with Galina in the afternoon to look for a tile place just inside the Queens line, to find out what happened to a refund check they owe us.
We even found the place. Shazam!
Along the way, we drove down a street where there were three old-fashioned garage sales going on. (My definition of an "old-fashioned garage sale" is where people are selling stuff for peanuts instead of trying to run a sale where the asking prices are very nearly retail.) The prize of the afternoon was a Bavarian crystal decanter and four shot glasses for $2.00. Galina had fun, too, picking up a very nearly new Tonka construction vehicle for Mathew for $5.00.
During today's afternoon walk with Shiloh, we passed by what looked like a somewhat deflated soccer ball, and I almost passed it by without a second glance until I realized that soccer balls do not fragment and are not solid. I stepped off the road to investigate, and found the biggest puffball I've ever seen "in the flesh," so to speak. Unfortunately, it had started to digest itself and was too close to a well-traveled road anyway, so harvesting it was out of the question.
In other news, I've gotten the official go-ahead to procure tickets for the next Baikonur campaign. I'll probably do that tomorrow morning, after I catch up with invoicing, and before packing for the upcoming week. For now, though, it's high time I sat down and nailed a couple of those translations.
