Playing catch-up...
Jan. 11th, 2009 05:57 pmFrankly, I had not counted on spending a full day unloading and then returning the rental truck to Santa Fe (ouch!), but that's what happened yesterday. We took advantage of our proximity to a Sam's Club to pick up some victuals, and then headed home.
We stopped at a place that we've gone past many times, a restaurant called Dara Thai. We ordered light, and maybe it was just a coincidence, but everything we ordered turned out to be deep fried, which was something we were trying to avoid by going to a place like that to begin with (and perhaps I'll have the presence of mind to ask about this detail when next we order food in a new restaurant).
When we got back in the car, we noticed that our left headlight had gone out, so we made a stop at a local auto parts place, and when I seemed a little slow figuring out how to replace the blown bulb assembly, a guy who had parked next to me came over and gave me a hand without being asked, giving me a chance to use some of my basic Spanish vocabulary.
Going home, the landscape was relatively well-lit, considering the sun was down and the only source of illumination was a very bright full moon, and we finally got home around 11 pm. Shiloh was glad to see us.
I managed to finish the job due tomorrow morning and get a reasonable but not wholly adequate chunk done of the job due Friday morning. As a result, I'm going to have to average about 5,000 source words per day to make the deadline. I may put in a couple more hours tonight, as every little bit helps, but anything I do tonight isn't going to make a big difference.
Cheers...
