Overly confident, I took off with Galina for Durango this morning, to go visit the Home Depot to finalize the plans for the kitchen. It turned out to be a huge time sink for me, so that by the time we got back, and so on, and so forth, I found myself at 5:30 pm a mere 90 words ahead of yesterday's pace. This meant, basically, that I had 2350 words left to translate if I was to have a prayer of delivering the job as promised on Monday morning..

By the time I took a break for dinner at 6:30 pm, I was 300 words ahead of where I was yesterday (which is to say, I had 1650 source words left to translate). Between cooking and eating dinner, that margin had shrunk back to 90 words at my next reckoning point, at 7:45 pm.

To be frank, I really dislike doing the bulk of a day's translation work so late in the day, as it tends to cast a shadow on what went on before, as it did today: I should have enjoyed the trip to Durango. Instead I couldn't keep What I Had Left To Do™ out of my mind.

I have about 3500 words of the job left for tomorrow, together with some figures and a handful of questions about terms I've been running into that I'm not sure of (surveying is not one of my strong suits).

Time to wind down.

Cheers...
