Keep on truckin' Saturday...
Dec. 26th, 2009 07:10 pmGalina and I headed back to the other side of town around 9 am this morning, where I switched to the truck and drove it from Natalie's new house to the apartment she's been sharing with her boyfriend Robert. What had seemed yesterday to be an intractable collection of miscellaneous stuff in her apartment had overnight become something that might just fit into the truck, with enough left over to require a few trips with a loaded car. And so it went. Robert and I managed to unload the truck in jig time.
In the end, we returned the truck by the stated deadline with a full 15 minutes to spare.
Earlier in the day, Natalie and I visited a Borders that is selling its stock at a discount because it is closing soon, detouring briefly to visit a Shipley's Do-Nut shop where we picked up a half dozen kolaches and a like number of donuts.
The kolaches were tasty, as usual. Basically, they're baked products with a baked-in "payload" that ranges from sausage to ham-and-cheese. I prefer the latter, though apparently Natalie and Robert prefer the former.
The Borders was offering a 30% discount on its stock of books, which still affords the house something of a profit on sold stock. I did take advantage of the relatively steep discount to pick up a hardcover of some of Philip K. Dick's later novels.
After all the moving was done for the day, Galina and I took off for Seaboork. On the way home, we stopped by the Whole Foods Market at Westheimer and Wilcrest, and then again across the street at a Japanese store that sells, among other items, natto. I look forward to trying this soy product soon.
Dinner this evening was basmati brown rice with fried chicken thighs. Galina gave the recipe (what recipe? salt and pepper is a recipe?) high marks, though to be frank, I agree it was pretty tasty, even if I say so myself.
All in all, pretty good, for the day after Christmas.
Cheers...
