Oh, what a shiny Friday!
Mar. 19th, 2010 06:17 pmIt's been a fairly straightforward day.
The section of translation I left for last was, perhaps, the most difficult, because it was laced with strange company names (Scientific Production Associations, Machine-Building Plants, etc.) and consequently, with adjectival forms of city names. I have seen translations that simply transliterate the adjective, but - just to give an example - Moskovskiy State University both looks and sounds a lot less preferable than Moscow State University. And so I got acquainted - and in most cases, reacquainted - with geographical names. (City names were also the bane of my work with an article about the Causcasus region, but I managed to stumble through that by compiling a key list.)
Anyway, by 6 pm, I had managed to despeckle about half the text, so I figure I ought to be able to finish the other half tomorrow morning, then spit-shine the whole thing and send it to my client's inbox by noon their time.
Meanwhile, I need to get cracking - no joking around, now - on getting this place spiffy. (I'm just glad my workload this weekend is light.)
Cheers...
