I walked all the way out of Moscow today, out beyond the city's limits. This was no great feat, as the demarcation point is not far away, but it was notable.

Traffic in our temporary neck of the woods is terrible. We've seen a half dozen accidents that have resulted in slower-than-usual traffic, if such a thing can be imagined. Yesterday afternoon, when we got onto a "route taxi" for the ride home, the driver said he would be taking an alternate route because of traffic, so we got off. However, after this happened again a half hour later, I had to ask: "Well, how do we get home?"

The driver replied that he would be taking a road that, as it turns out, parallels the main drag where the slowdown occurs, and he could let us out not too far from the standard stop. (About 100 yards difference, as it turns out.) Doh!

We hung out today, mostly doing laundry, and by the time we got going - I suddenly had an urge to watch Команда А (The A Team) in Russian - traffic was against us going the other way. When we finally got to the theater, we found the prices to be rather steep for our taste: 540 rubles (about $16) for "first class"seats, and 270 rubles (about $8) for cheap seats. I recalled, from the last time I attended a movie theater around these parts, that seating is also assigned (as it would be, say, for a Broadway show) and the Russian habit is to assign seats in "packed" order, i.e., if you are first in line and are assigned seats 1 and 2, the next couple that buys tickets gets seats 3 and 4.

Dinner was at a place called Yakitoria, where for the third day in a row, I had sushi. Yum!

Natalie arrives tomorrow. It's going to be one very busy day.

Cheers...
