So I decide to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer under VMware, which works fine and eventually pops a login screen at me, whereupon it turns out I can't use my keyboard to type my password. At first, I think there's something wrong with USB support (I'm using a plug-in keyboard and mouse), but the machine's built-in keyboard doesn't work either.

I type
ubuntu does not accept keyboard input
into Google, and the first link returned solves my problem. It turns out there's a bug in VMware, and the page that answers my question provides detailed steps and workarounds.

In other news, books that highlight the use of popular software, such as Drupal, have a tendency to go out of date real fast. Authors of such volumes sure do have a moving target to hit!

Just the thing to make a working Sunday go easier.

The rain comes by pretty much every day, which portends well for mushroom season if it continues on a regular basis. The annoying side effect of such rain is a power system that "hiccups" about once every two minutes, although now I have all of my computer and networking equipment plugged into uninterruptible power supplies.

Still, it's nice to watch nature at work.

Cheers...
