It took a while, but I managed to complete 3500 source words and catch up on my outstanding invoices. August so far has been a disappointment as far as billings are concerned, but work this week has picked up, and I hope to hear soon from the client for The Big Edit™, the job that is set to contribute about one-third of my "nut" both this month and next.

Rumors are afoot regarding another launch campaign later this year, but I'm not going to think about that until at least the beginning of October.

Galina and I watched a film on Netflix yesterday titled Kinamand, which is apparently Danish for "Chinaman." In a nutshell, the story concerns a Dane whose life goes into the toilet, and in the course of consuming dinners at a local Chinese restaurant, is drawn into marrying the owner's sister - who speaks not a word of Danish (while our hero speaks not a word of Mandarin) - so that she can stay in Denmark.

I sat through the entire film, which is high praise considering how short a fuse I have for stories that don't engage me. But what it was, exactly, that engaged me is a complete mystery. I think I was waiting to see the steppingstones of the rather predictable "they fall in love with each other" arc, but the story got there without any such episodes. In all, it was an interesting dish, to be sure, Danish-Chinese in flavor.

Cloudy skies continue (with rain), which is good for mushrooming, but maybe not so good if one wants to get up in the middle of the night to see if the Perseid meteors are percolating. The word I've heard is that the maximum of this year's shower is scheduled for some time tomorrow afternoon or early evening for my neck of the woods, which makes tonight and tomorrow night (after midnight) the two best shots at catching any meteors.

A site named Tabwin suggests that the best time for viewing the Perseids in Colorado is between 11:30 pm and 5:00 am tomorrow (presumably, that's 11:30 pm tonight through 5 am tomorrow). We'll see. In any event, what particularly makes this year's performance so promising is the lack of any moon in the sky, which will improve visibility.

Time to maybe get some sleep if I'm going to do this. Sleeping late tomorrow is not an option, really.

Cheers...
