Ying and yang...
Jun. 1st, 2011 08:21 pmThe weather has been sunny and warm enough to keep the verandah door open during the day, which has the upside of not requiring me to play doorman for a dog and three cats. The downside is that the cats apparently have developed a liking for, um, dismantling their rodent and avian prey in the comfort of their food dish. Or at least its vicinity.
All of May is invoiced. The art translation is done, sent, and the invoice—marked PAID (for I arranged to have the work paid for in advance)—is gone as well. Two new assignments were dispatched.
The iPad apparently has a bias in favor of using WiFi in cases where both WiFi and cell network are available. Consequently, over the past 28 days, I've only had to use about 24 MB of bandwidth. That means I ought to be able to very comfortably dial back my service to 250 MB per month (down from 2 GB) and save some money. Better yet, I can actually cut off my cell network access, and not pay anything at all (though hopefully that doesn't mess with the GPS capability of the unit).
I spent some time this morning on a video Skype call with Galina, going through closets and displaying individual items so that Galina could triage them into "no," "maybe," and "yes" as the time nears to pack a bag and bring it to New York for the both of us. The time flew; 30 minutes of connect time went by in an instant. The whole experience was, for me, a novel application of video-and-voice-over-IP.
Been a long day. I set a recurring alarm for every two hours to make sure I got some exercise in. The tactic appears to have worked. I'm going to try the same approach tomorrow.
Cheers...
