Tactical adjustment...
Aug. 20th, 2011 08:56 amAnother 800 words were deleted from what is left of the 40K Job (extraneous text I missed from the day before yesterday), which brings me down below 20,000 words to go. That must've been some kind of psychological barrier, because I feel unjustifiably better about the work right now.
No matter, I will take spiritual uplift anywhere I can find it.
An analysis of the remaining part of the file shows just under 8,000 words of that 20K or so sit inside of TRADOS delimiters, which means the rest is "new" material.
It occurs to me that if I take the time to go through the rest of the file today and concentrate only on making sure translated text within delimiters correct, that will effectively give me just 12,000 words to go (since every time I will encounter something in delimiters in the course of using Wordfast, I can just go on to the next item without looking at it).
That way, the job reduces to one day of editing (and perhaps not very heavy editing, since memoQ spit out all numbers in tables inside of TRADOS delimiters, and there are some fairly large tables at the end of the document) and three days of reasonable translation effort.
Which means I could even take a day off, say, tomorrow, and still bring this puppy in on time, without getting an extension from the project manager. (On the other tentacle, it will cut down on despeckling time, which may not be so hot an idea, not to mention that translating 12,000 words of this document might not be reasonably done in three days.) I never expected to take a day off during this death-march anyway, so I lose nothing.
So, let's see how this dog hunts.
Cheers...
