Not quite as long, not quite as fast...
Oct. 23rd, 2011 09:30 pmI have arrived at my destination. It was a hard three days of driving, but I'm finally here.
Pennsylvania was by far the most pleasant state through which I traveled, in terms of not having to shift mental gears (and physical speed) every few miles to deal with road construction. Subjectively, in that regard, Indiana had to be the least pleasant state to drive through. Uniformly along the way, however, folks were friendly and helpful.
The traffic headed into New York began to thicken about 20 miles out on the Jersey side. After reading the dire warnings of 40-90 minute delays getting onto the George Washington Bridge, I elected to enter New York via the Lincoln Tunnel, the toll for which ($12) about cleaned me out of cash.
Once on Manhattan, I made my way along 42nd Street from the west side to 3rd Avenue, where I turned north, eventually gaining the 59th Street Bridge (still a free ride to and from Queens) and then down Northern Boulevard to a decision point: turn south on the BQE (headed for the LIE)? or continue on Northern?
I chose the former, FWIW. I didn't really feel like dealing with red lights all the way to Glen Cove Road.
From the 59th Street Bridge to Locust Valley took just under an hour, but I'm here.
I am also well and truly exhausted, as I've been on the road since 6:45 this morning.
The immediate agenda calls for sleep, especially as I've already got work lined up for tomorrow morning.
Cheers...
