When it became clear late yesterday morning that no work would be coming in, the computer stayed off, and I never did generate enough of a head of steam to get off my duff and write a post.

Work did come in today, though, for Monday, so there was no pressure to sit down now and get it done today. I will have plenty of time, I think, to devote to other issues, such as packing stuff.

CBS was broadcasting a repeat episode of The Mentalist last night, which made catching the pilot of Awake, broadcast by NBC in the 10-11 pm ET slot, pretty easy to do.

The basic setup of the series (along the lines of explaining how Unforgettable is about a police detective who has a medical condition that allows her to remember everything she's seen, in the event anyone is overly sensitive to spoilers) is that Awake is about a police detective who—having survived a car accident in which his wife and son were also passengers—now experiences alternate waking realities. In one, he lives with his wife after having buried his son; in the other, he lives with his son after having buried his wife.

The two worlds are utterly real, down to the respective psychiatrists he's seeing, the crimes he's solving, the partners he's working with, and the color of rubber band he wears around his wrist to remind him of what reality he is "in" at any given time. If you apply a little imagination to this basic setup, all sorts of things are possible, and frankly, it will be interesting to see if the writers will be able to keep all the balls in the air while maintaining viewer interest.

Galina and I took a little trip down to Long Beach to see what we could see. It's an interesting little community.

Cheers...
