...buy some more! Batteries, that is... for the adonit Bluetooth keyboard I use with my iPad. (The keyboard seems to suck down a set of three AAA batteries in about a week.)

I'm having all sorts of fun with mailbox keys. After having gone down to the post office to cancel our forwarding order, I've tried two of them (hanging from key rings) on the mailbox and neither is the right one. I sure hope there is a third one hanging about.

I'm having even more fun with bandwidth issues. I am not satisfied with the 2 GB available via my iPhone's Personal Hotspot. On the one hand, I've ruled out both AT&T and Verizon as alternatives on the basis of having to enter into a 2 year contract for one of their USB modems. On the other, there's a pay-as-you-go wireless USB modem available for $99 at the City Market, but its data plan is wildly expensive, weighing in at $30 for 1 GB. And spending an extra $80 for Skywerx (to move an installation, which itself will cost $150 to install) makes no sense at all. I like my connectivity, but not at that price.

Apropos of my Personal Hotspot, Windows apparently downloaded some more updates this afternoon, while I was running a program called—straightforwardly enough—Bandwidth Monitor together with a utility called TCPView. For a while, the only symptom that anything was going on, network-wise, was an indication that my system was "uploading" a lot of data (which doesn't make sense, since there was nowhere to upload to) at about 100 KB/s. Meanwhile, TCPView only showed generic Windows system-level connections (which makes sense, since it was the system that was downloading the updates).

Backblaze is paused and bahaving itself. My antivirus is set for manual updating. Windows Update is in "check and let me know" mode.

A test: My current Verizon reading is 1.592 GB. Traffic has been reset.

After my session, I'm at 1629.95 MB (Bandwidth Monitor says 7.77 MB has been used.) Momentary confusion, until I realize that 2*(1629.95/2048) = 1.59174. So effectively, there's been no change in my usage number. Good. I shall have to run this test again a few times between the rest of today and tomorrow. I have a 370 MB "buffer" before my account cycles.

Cheers...
