The 4-GB memory card I ordered for the ASUS arrived today. Installation was fairly straightforward, even if it did require the use of a magnifying glass and reading spectacles to make sure the job was being done right.
After adding the memory, I felt confident about installing the VMWare Workstation 9 software and creating an Ubuntu virtual machine with 1 GB of RAM. And once I got a complete ISO image downloaded for the desktop version of Ubuntu 12.10, the process went surprisingly smoothly.
Work was work. I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but I'm not going to sweat it. I put in some good time researching some terms that I'm pretty sure I'm going to see again in the future, so it's not as if the effort will be wasted (even if the terms never appear again).
Time to kick back and do some thinking.
