The move from Colorado to Texas exacerbated the emptiness of the nest, for even though long periods of time passed between our contacts with Drew and the members of his family, there was the psychological crutch of knowing they were there (and you could even see their house with a pair of good binoculars!)—not unlike the phenomenon where, living in a large city, one rarely goes to visit the museums, theaters, and so on.

In the end, however, waking up today was pretty much like waking up any other day. (And that's always a good thing!)

In any event, we acted completely out of character by going out for breakfast at the IHOP over in Kemah, for one of their pop-your-eyeballs gynormous offerings (I had the Western omlette with the side order of pancakes). Then we swung by the house to pick up the dogs and drove to the dog park on Bay Area.

We almost turned around to go home when some large raindrops hit the windshield, but didn't. When we got to the park, we had the place pretty much to ourselves, and so we didn't have to split up (the park consists of two areas, one for dogs that weigh less than 20 lb.—which would be Thumper—and the other for larger dogs, such as Shiloh; we brought both dogs into the area set aside for the smaller dogs). Shiloh and Thumper spent pretty much all of their time with their noses to the ground, while I noticed a sign that read "BEWARE OF THE HAWK" riveted to the chain link. Hmmm.

Dinner was plain, but filling: buckwheat maison with handmade meatballs made of ground turkey.

Gotta get my rest for the rest of the week.

Cheers...
