An interesting memory spark...
Mar. 21st, 2013 10:42 pmSifu was talking about the sensitivity of the jaw today and mentioned something I hadn't thought about in quite some time, as it's been some time since the last time "it" happened to me.
I clearly remember the first time, however. I had, in fact, just penned my Hancock on my Marine enlistment papers, at which point the recruiter, a friendly Gunnery Sergeant, gave me a "chit" authorizing me to go to the base mess hall and eat lunch. I recall I got some kind of sandwich, nothing special.
And upon taking my very first bite, something—I'm not quite sure what—happened when I applied pressure on the food with my jaw. The result was quite unpleasant, however, as pain made itself the central focus of my attention for several seconds. It was as if my jaw was going to fall off my face, but not without a fight.
This phenomenon has occurred several times since then, but not since we left Houston for Colorado back in 2001.
I don't miss it at all.
* * * I managed to get the big job that had been extended to tomorrow out the wire this afternoon, and started on the next item, due tomorrow around noon (although some pressure had cropped up to deliver by 11 am my time). If I get up early-ish, I ought to make the deadline.
But to do that, I'll have to get to bed pretty much immediately.
G'night...
