I got to thinking a bit more about Iridium flares today, and soon found a web site that will, among other things, provide data on such flares visible from the site visitor's location. I plugged in my coordinates and found there are some nice flares to be seen around here at around midnight.

Except that I went outside a few minutes ago and that area of the sky is pretty much covered with high-altitude clouds. Ah, well...

For some reason, I became rather aware of all the signs hanging here and there at the hotel. In my room, for example, there's an evacuation plan attached to the inside of my door, and another, larger version of the same plan on stiff plastic mounted on the wall near the door. The plastic, by the way, glows in the dark.

There are three smoke alarms in my room, and each has a red LED that blinks from time to time. These are not really noticeable during the day, but they are at night, as I look up from the bed at the ceiling. When I had my radio charger on the dresser, the radio would add a blinking green LED to the mix, but I have since relegated the radio and its charger to the bathroom.

There are notices everywhere, it seems. So many, in fact, that frankly, after reading one or two, I have no interest in reading any of the rest. Frankly, the philosophy of "if it's forbidden but you really want to do it, then it's okay," which appears to be so prevalent among Russians, basically takes the bite out of most prohibitions anyway (at least the minor ones, certainly).

A bunch of folks arrived to replace some of the people who've been here since the campaign went to standby mode. I'm here a bit longer.

Cheers..
