So while I'm twiddling thumbs waiting for Castle to come up on the tube, I thought I'd share my thoughts on last week's premiere of NCIS.

First, I have to admit I'm not a big fan of seeing "To be continued" on the screen at the end of an episode. While I understand that some stories just need more time, I look forward to seeing a minimum of two-part episodes.

This latest installment, however, seems to be turning the series into a serial of some king. My impression is that last season ended with two parts (or episodes that seemed like two parts) the story of which resumed last week, and will continue tomorrow night.

I am supremely suspicious of Richard Parsons (the character being played by Colin Hanks). It just seems to me that he always seems to be aware of stuff before it goes wrong. He shows up in Iran to rescue Gibbs after the latter's meeting with an informant goes wrong (how did Parsons know where to go?), he provides DiNozzo with a file detailing a likely "safe house" that Ziva may be in, which turns out to be full of a bunch of dead bad guys who got to the house (and a "hot" reception from Ziva) before the good guys did. All along, his sudden turnaround, based on almost being caught in an explosion that kills the Secretary of the Navy (coincidence that he happens along and delays Tom Morrow from entering the building, no?).

That said, the bad guys is probably not Parsons, but the guy in charge of the association of private businesses cooperating with the government against terrorism. The guy is a complete cipher, and his photo was among those of "targets" to be taken out.

I could probably continue in this manner and criticize all of my other favorite shows, but I only really needed to let off a little steam, so we'll skip that exercise.

I realized today that tomorrow marks the sixth anniversary of my stepdad's death, which means last week was the seventh anniversary of my mother's passing. I realized this the hard way, via a passing thought—as I picked up my cell phone late this morning—of how nice it would be to call my old man and chat for a while about nothing in particular.

Where the heck did that come from, I wonder?
